All these intertwined stories show that the cliché is true: you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. He looks and acts very criminally, but he also has a story to tell. The same could be said about the new inmate, Leonard, who is convicted for killing his police father. From Eileen’s perspective, Rebecca is the perfect woman, but when she starts digging a little deeper, she finds out that everything isn’t the way it seems. She has and is everything Eileen hopes for: beauty, wisdom, and grace. When Rebecca Saint John starts working at Moorehead, Eileen adores her. Fighting with every breath she had, she managed to make her dreams into reality, even though the world seemed to be against her. At the end of the book, her hopes become reality and she flees the city, leaving her old life behind. She felt trapped and locked away, staying in the house of her alcoholic, abusive father. When she was younger, she spent most of her time dreaming and hoping of a brighter future, away from the town she grew up in. Written by people who wish to remain anonymousĮileen Dunlop, the narrator of the story is an old woman that is looking back at her life as a 24-year-old girl in the city of X-Ville. This helped the Greeks make a better stand against the numerically vastly superior Persians, who were invading Greece. Thermopylae was chosen as an ideal location for waging a defensive action in view of its narrow passage through the mountainous geography. The setting is the mountain pass in which the Battle of Thermopylae was about to be fought, in 480 BCE. The crowded and theatrical scene that David depicts takes place in a time of war, seemingly in Ancient Greece from the Greek temple and temperate mountains in the background. David's pupil Georges Rouget collaborated on it. The piece depicts the Spartan king Leonidas prior to the Battle of Thermopylae. Leonidas at Thermopylae was purchased, along with The Intervention of the Sabine Women, in November 1819 for 100,000 francs by Louis XVIII, the king of France. David completed the massive work (3.95 m × 5.31 m) 15 years after he began, working on it from 1799 to 1803 and again in 1813–1814. The work currently hangs in the Louvre in Paris, France. Leonidas at Thermopylae is an oil-on-canvas painting by French artist Jacques-Louis David. Painting by Jacques-Louis David Leonidas at Thermopylae I love Lucas Werneck’s art in this book – he is definitely reaching superstar status on this book.Īdventures of Superman: Jon Kent #3 – Jon is in another world where its Superman has created a version of Utopia. Gillen really gets her, and uses her best qualities to forward a couple of storylines. Ororo has long been one of my favorite X-Men, and it’s been years since she’s been written this well. I really like how much thought Gillen has put into each of the characters on the Council, and the deep understanding of them that he shows. I should have read this before the Sons of X oneshot, as this takes place before that, but it does help explain a few things that were confusing me. Immortal X-Men #11 – Kieron Gillen shows us the aftermath of the Sins of Sinister event, as Storm works to restore the Quiet Council even though she no longer trusts Charles, Emma, Hope, and Exodus after Sinister’s machinations have been revealed. |
